Fabrication of a Molding Press Loading Fixture for the Plastic / Rubber Molding Industry

The combination of metal fabrication capabilities we offer in-house at Morris & Broms, LLC allows us to create complex assemblies for a variety of applications. The assembly shown here is a press loading fixture that is used in the rubber and plastic molding industry. The fixture consists of a combination of aluminum, stainless steel, and high-density polyethylene components. The sheet metal parts were produced using CNC turret punch presses. The HDPE panel was drilled, milled, and counter bored on CNC milling equipment. Additional features were formed using CNC press brakes and rolling equipment. Dimensional tolerances as tight as ±0.005" were held at critical locations during the fabrication process.

A combination of welding procedures, including MIG, TIG, and spot welding, were used to create the complete assembly. The stainless steel slide plate was coated with a PTFE compound to reduce friction and extend the life of the fixture. The ancillary hardware was sourced and added to the assembly, allowing the customer to use the fixture in its delivered state. This is an active project and we produce approximately 100 of these fixtures annually with a lead time of 8 weeks after receipt of the order.
